p.16 8080/8086 Cross-Assembler. Part 2 (p.156 in reprint volume 7)

[author : Jonathan Miles]

Last year’s most widely acclaimed DDJ article was part one of this series, which covers the activities of the Z-88 Project. The author’s latest contribution covers some features of the XASM-86 development language and of Intel’s 8087 Numeric Data Processor chip.

p.26 Small-C DISKDOC: A Repair and Maintenance Utility (p.165 in reprint volume 7)

[author : Egil Kvaleberg]

A down-to-earth addition to the toolkit of anyone who uses and prepares programs for diskettes. This program is written to be compiled by Ron Cain’s Small-C compiler (see our back issues, esp. #45 and #48) and is meant to be used in a CP/M environment. Its appeal is even broader in scope, as it is written in a high-level language and has a general, easily adaptable structure.

p.36 Make the Most of Your Check Digits (p.172 in reprint volume 7)

[author : Peter Zilahy Ingerman]

Check digits — once you know how to use them - can be much more than just simple error indicators. They can tell if there was one error or several, what the errors most likely were, and the probable correction.

p.42 A Poor Person’s Spelling Checker (p.175 in reprint volume 7)

[author : Alan Bomberger]

New proofreading and spelling correction programs seem to appear every month. Dictionaries contain more words, and editing functions become (somewhat) less cumbersome - yet most still leave much to be desired. This version is published to foster wider interest in the features and foibles of such software. Can anyone find a better way?

p.54 Son of Runic: Writing the Compiler (p.184 in reprint volume 7)

[author : Marty Franz]

When this author opted for CP/M over his older Pet, he found the environment he needed for language development. This article describes some of the implementation details of his Forth-like Runic, an interactive, extensible compiler described in last month’s issue.
